Eco Friendly Computing - Green Laptops

What will "green" notebooks of the future look like? Although we cannot claim to be holding a technology crystal ball, we can relay to you the latest in green computing innovations, and make a few predictions based on the information at hand.

The design for truly green laptop wonders of the future—currently in the conceptual design phase—is tending toward smaller, sleeker, and cleaner, but what about greener? Let’s take now-and-later peeks at energy efficiency, disposability and recycling issues, proposed models, and sustainable packaging options.

Dell to Offer Google Search Devices

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Dell Inc said on Tuesday it will sell Google search devices to help companies find information on their networks. Dell said it would sell Google Search Appliance starting at $30,000 and the Google Mini starting at $1,995 to U.S. corporate customers and small businesses. Dell already offers personal computers with Google's desktop search software.

The Google-made machines, which scour corporate networks and Web sites for documents and other data, will help Dell, the world's second-largest personal computer maker, expand its main business of selling computers to businesses, which account for about 85 percent of the Round Rock, Texas-based company's revenue.

Zonbu is the first desktop computer with a nearly invisible environmental footprint. Add your might to the fight to protect the earth's climate and resources with a computer that thinks about the future.

Solar Powered WI-FI

Someday, you might hook into the Internet through solar power. Orlando, Fla.-based Solis Energy has created a portable, uninterrupted power supply for Wi-Fi routers that harvest their energy from the sun, according to Robert Reynolds, CEO of the company.

By replacing the five most frequently used lights in your home with ENERGY STAR qualified lighting, you can save more than $60 each year in energy costs. If every US household replaced their five highest-use fixtures, or the bulbs in them, with ENERGY STAR qualified models, the change would prevent the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to the annual emissions from more than 8 million cars.
